Selling Gold and Silver from Wellington
Presentation silver is the recurring Wellington question. A trophy looks identical whether it is sterling or plated, and the difference is the entire value — so it is fifty minutes to a test and a scale.
No appointment needed. No obligation to sell.
Live metal market
This is the market your offer is calculated against — not a chart printed last week. Your items are tested and weighed at the counter, and the arithmetic is done in front of you.

Route
The trip from Wellington
Getting to us
East on Forest Hill Boulevard or Southern Boulevard to I-95, then south to Oakland Park or Commercial Boulevard and east. About fifty minutes off-peak. In show season the roads around the showgrounds move at trailer speed long before you reach a highway, so leave earlier than the map suggests. Southern Boulevard and Lake Worth Road both run east to the Turnpike as well.
What that distance means
Fifty minutes each way is a morning, so bring everything, and bring it unpolished. Trophies and presentation pieces especially. Polishing removes silver and wears down the marks that decide whether a piece is sterling or plated, and those marks are frequently the only difference between a real number and none at all.
The local picture
Selling gold in Wellington
Fifty minutes to the counter, and there is effectively no dedicated metal buying inside the village. Wellington is residential and planned and organized around a season: the equestrian circuit fills it from January into spring and thins it out afterwards, and the retail that exists is built for that rather than for a resale trade. Two things follow. Comparing offers from here means real driving, which is the same problem western Broward has and the same reason first offers so often become final ones. And the material itself is different. Alongside the usual jewelry there is presentation silver, trophy plate, and cups and platters engraved for a class somebody won thirty years ago. Plated trophies are extremely common and carry almost no melt value however substantial they feel, while a sterling presentation piece can be heavy and genuinely worth something. Nobody can separate the two by looking, including us. It takes a test, it takes a minute and it costs nothing.
Selling part of it, and keeping the rest
Wellington empties out after the season, and a house occupied three months a year is the worst place to leave metal. That is the half people put off: the selling decision is straightforward and the keeping decision has no obvious home. Florida Intervault runs a 9R-rated private vault in the same building as our counter, which means a fifty-minute drive can settle both halves in one morning. What is sold goes on the scale. What stays in the family goes into storage rather than back into an empty house for the summer.
Florida Intervault is a separate company in the same building, family-run since 1983. Storing anything is entirely optional and nobody at the counter will push you toward it — you are free to sell and go home.
What Wellington sellers usually bring
Gold Jewelry
Chains, rings and odd earrings tested for karat at the counter, weighed in front of you, priced on the live market.

Gold Coins & Bullion
Eagles, Maples, Krugerrands and refiner bars verified while you wait, with anything worth more than melt flagged first.
Explore →
Silver
Bars, rounds, junk coin and sterling flatware tested piece by piece, so a genuine set never leaves valued as plate.
Explore →
Estate & Inherited Metal
Bring the box unsorted. Everything is separated and valued item by item, with a written breakdown for the family.
Explore →
Dental Gold
Crowns and bridges tested for what they actually contain, palladium and silver included, with no cleaning needed first.
Explore →
Platinum & Palladium
Platinum is easily mistaken for white gold. We test for it specifically and price both metals on their own markets.

FAQ
Common questions
- Are show trophies worth anything?
- Some are and most are not, and a test is the only way to know. Silverplate over a base metal has close to no melt value however heavy it feels. Sterling presentation pieces can carry real weight. Bring them unpolished and we will sort the two in front of you at no charge, and you are free to take every piece home again.
- There is nowhere out here to compare an offer against. What should I do?
- Email photographs to info@sygusa.com before you drive anywhere, including the marks on the underside of anything silver. We will say what the pieces look to be, roughly what range to expect, and whether the morning is worth spending. If you already hold a written offer from anywhere at all, bring it. We will beat it.
- How far is it from Wellington?
- About 50 minutes to our Fort Lauderdale counter, traffic depending. Season adds to that on the coastal roads.
- Do I need an appointment?
- No. Walk in during business hours. If you are bringing a large estate lot, call first so we have the cash and a second tester ready.
- What do I need to bring?
- Valid government-issued photo ID. Florida law requires a dealer to record every purchase and take a copy of your ID, with no exceptions.
- Can I get a number before I drive over?
- Email photos to info@sygusa.com and we will tell you what it looks like and what the range depends on. A real figure still needs the items on the scale.

Lake Worth
Downtown Lake Worth Beach runs on thrift, vintage and flea-market trade, and all of it prices a piece by how it looks. Forty-five minutes south is a counter that prices it by what it tests at.

Palm Beach Gardens
Fifty-five minutes south, and the last city inside the fifty-mile line we work to. Retail here is one very large mall and the PGA Boulevard corridor, so the nearest place to compare an offer is usually a mall jewelry counter.
